One week into the rest of my life
I leave an island, marked by my own sweat
And monkeys, thousands of prehensile tales hanging on my every breath
But unable to be tethered to my growing interest
Now bound for an isthmus, a city of old and new
Walked streets that were littered with litters
Found a bombed out home to disenchanted youth
Watched as they whittled away at a new life
Left behind the old; toys, mama’s breast, an xbox 360
Rolling in unison to the drumming of my empty pulse
Slowly being filled with meaning, ideas and tempering tears
I took photograph after photograph
Hoping your youthful arrogance would translate on a pixilated screen
You jump, flip, fall and get up
Dust off knees, elbows and bloody palms
Return to your corner just to repeat it all over again
My life feels so calculated and cold as I watch you fall
ALL OVER AGAIN
I learn lessons and take them with me as I say goodbye
Youth, you, the boy on the wall watching it all
Watching my face take in his
No more than 15
No less than my 30
He gets inside my blood just as I have to walk away from it all
Bombed out home to disenchanted youth
Home now to my once vacant pulse
Now beating in heavy unison with your free falls
